Algeria also known as “People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria” is one of the most beautiful countries situated in the region of North Africa. Among the list of top ten largest countries of the world in square kilometres, Algeria comes at number ten with its total area of 2,381,741 square kilometres.
Algeria has 16th largest oil reserves in the world along with 9th largest natural gas reserves. The language which is commonly spoken all over is Arabic along with French which is used to serve academic and administrative purposes.
Algeria is one of those few precious countries in the world that carries the honor of having most UNESCO’s World Heritage Sites in any country. Algeria deserves this honor because of its vast historical past and ancient dynasties.
Some of the major ancient dynasties include Numidians, Phoenicians, Carthaginians, Romans, Byzantines, Umayyads, Abbasids, Rustamid, Idrisid, Ottomans along with French Colonial Empire. We will discuss some of those precious treasures from ancient past which are eye catching attraction for today’s modern world.
OASIS:
The word “Oasis” means “Dwelling Land”. As the name depicts, Oasis is considered as a fertile or green region among the arid region. Algeria’s 80% part comes under the Sahara Desert.
The northern half of the desert is less arid and most of them covers the region of Oasis. Date palm is considered as king of fruits in Sahara region as it grows naturally as main source of food along with some others including olives, figs, citrus fruits etc.
One of the famous contemporary novelist from Algeria “Assia Djebar” also highlighted this region and her country by calling it “A dream of sand.”
TIMGAD:
Timgad is considered as one of the best Roman sites which is still preserved in today’s modern world. This city was found in 100BC by the Emperor Trajan as a military colony but later on, it served centuries as a peaceful place and the city enjoyed golden decades of its peak. In the 5th century, the city was dismissed by Vandals. After that this ancient city declined.
Some of the interesting and highlighting facts which we find from the ruins of the ancient city includes the library at Timgad which was a gift to Roman public by Julius Quintianus Flavius Rogatianus. The library included 81 feet long and 77 feet wide.
There was a beautiful theatre made for the joys and entertainment of the public with sitting capacity of 3500 people at a time. French archaeologists rebuilt most of the theatre during their period. Other highlighting facts include Great baths of the North along with Trajan’s Arch. These ancient masterpieces are one of the most precious preservation in today’s modern world. This is the reason why Timgad is included in UNESCO’S World Heritage Site.
ACCORDING TO AUTHOR BELINDA HAYAT BOUKSIL FROM ALGERIA:
Algeria, a country of countless riches and natural wonders. Breathtaking landscapes, generous and varied meals from one region to another. People will not hesitate to invite you over to their home for a meal or to spend the night there, all without asking for anything in return, other than maybe a smile.
Rich in traditions, this predominantly Muslim country is proud of its origins, Amazighs, Chaouis Arabs… etc. All live in harmony, combining modernity but without omitting the uses and customs dear to each region.
Algerians are known to be proud people, with a big heart and humor that will make more than one smile, generous in their attitude, they will not hesitate to include you in their conversations, and consider you such a part of their family, even if you have just met them, they will make you feel at home from the first moment.
Algeria, country of couscous in all its variants, is also the country of good little dishes and delicious recipes that never cease to evolve and surprise, and Algerian women never stop finding new ideas to sublimate a dish that is already delicious in itself.
During the holy month of Ramadan, which is one of the five pillars of Islam, Muslims of the required age according to Islamic teachings should not eat, drink, smoke, or have sexual intercourse from dawn till sunset.
Algerian families’ meet every evening around the same table to break the fast, a multitude of dishes are served, and it is during this month that the dishes are the most varied, and the table, the most loaded.
Social networks then become the popular place for the exchange of ideas and the design of new easy but also quick recipes, which means that the current trend in Algeria, are these famous Youtubers with their miracle recipes, who not only teach apprentices how to succeed in their dishes (especially traditional, which are considered difficult to prepare for the most part) but also teach them how to innovate and make delicious dishes, which cost little and which delight young and old .
Among these famous Youtubers, we will find “Oum Walid”, who has known by the simplicity of its recipes, attract young Algerians and Algerians, eager to succeed in their recipes without worrying about the old methodology and which sometimes is very complex.
But thanks to Oum Walid, who unearths recipes that are still as innovative, but who also ensure the successful realization of his recipes, which makes Oum Walid, the culinary Youtuber the most followed on Algerian social networks, but also the most appreciated, because modest in his words but also very meticulous in his work.
(Note: Link of Oum Walid Youtube Channel given below)
We will also note the appearance of many culinary channels which continue to grow on Youtube, always targeting an Algerian audience eager to improve their skills in the culinary world.
Cooking in Algeria is something very important, following traditions, or moving towards modernity, nothing is omitted, and each generation undertakes to keep the complicated recipes of the heritage of the past, but also to find new ones. methods of realization, in order to simplify life for many, whether it is the woman who works, the young man who resides in a university establishment, the young girl eager to learn.
Everyone has found their happiness thanks to social networks, which not only allow sharing of successes but also failures, and thus receive advice that can always be used for continuous learning.
