Soča Valley is one of the eye-catching dream destinations in Slovenia due to the emerald blue Soča River which turns the entire region into a breathtaking spectacular landscape. High mountains, beautiful waterfalls, crystal clear water and green valleys all over makes it an ideal place for a tourist.

Soča Valley has its own attraction and different flavors in all four seasons of the year but the best time to visit Soča Valley is the summer season as temperature is warm and pleasant which allows people to explore beautiful sunshine and river swimming. Apart from that hiking, kayaking, mountain biking, rafting, and cycling are other sports activities that continue all over. The River Soča and its tributaries are also famous for fly fishing which makes it an ideal destination for fishermen.

KOBARID TOWN:

Kobarid Town is a must visit place for every tourist as it has a lot to offer to its visitors. Kozjak Waterfall is one of the most stunning waterfalls in entire Slovenia because of its eye-catching beauty. Green meadows, wooden suspension bridges and deep mysterious forests makes it an ideal place for photographers, movie makers, painters and artists.

Napoleon’s Bridge is another historical site in Kobarid. This historical bridge was constructed back in 1750, which was 900 meters away from the city center and troops of Napoleon’s Army passed through that bridge. This beautiful bridge was ruined in World War 1 but later on, it was constructed again.

St. Anthony Church is yet another masterpiece of construction due to its exceptional architecture and octagon shaped monument. It gives us glimpses of 17th century Kobarid in today’s modern Slovenia.

Kobarid is also an historical place as it played a major role in the First World War (It has a lot to offer to the historians and researchers).

Apart from that, another place near Kobarid known as Tolminska Korita. It’s just a magical destination to explore. There’s a walking/hiking route. It’s not too hard to walk, so it’s definitely a recommendation for anyone visiting the Soča Valley.

RUSSIAN CHAPEL

The chapel was built on Russian Road by Russian war prisoners at the Vršič Pass, in the 20th century. It represents the symbolic connection Slovenia and Russia have. It’s a beautiful spot to walk, hike and just to see.

ACCORDING TO THE AUTHOR IVRAN FROM SLOVENIA:

As Soča Valley is a famous destination for sports. I would recommend to you some of the famous sports held in Slovenia particularly in the Soča region.

MOUNTAIN CYCLING:

This place is famed because of the renowned “Soča Outdoor Festival Mountain Bike/ Cycling Competition”. People visit this place from all over to witness this famous competition. Apart from that, Mountain Biking/Cycling is a common practice in this region as every second local person owns a bike. You can do mountain biking yourself to explore the region.

PARAGLIDING:

Paragliding allows you to explore the natural beauty of Soča Valley and Julian Alps in the best possible way. This passion of exploration provides an opportunity to witness the “Paragliding Soča Outdoor Festival” during the Paragliding competition, where hundreds of paragliders jump from the mountain to reach the valley earlier than others. This fascinating festival is followed by countless fans all over.

KAYAKING:

Kayaking is another beautiful water sport found in Slovenia where each participant has his own boat under the supervision of instructors. Nothing can be better than kayaking on the beautiful emerald river.

CANYONING:

I would like to add that around the town of Bovec (my family’s home area). There is also a sport called canyoning! It’s amazing and fun to do but at the same time, there is a warning for the river swimmers as they should take precautions and permission from the authorities before swimming, as people regularly die from shock, hypothermia and the rapids. The river is possible to swim only for short periods, but people shouldn’t just jump in. The water usually ranges from 2°C to 7°C in spring and summer time and doesn’t get much warmer than that in the Soča Valley.

Some other interesting things to do is going up the Kanin with the cable carts.

Last but not the least, It’s truly my pride to come from such a beautiful place “Soča Valley” where the famous movie “Narnia” was partially shot.
