Turrón de Doña Pepa is a delicious sweet dish which is loved and admired all over Peru. This irresistible dessert is made by cup packed dark brown sugar, pieces of apples, bananas and dried apricot.
This sweet dish is also famous as the sweet dish of October as this dessert has a famous story related to the month of October. While enjoying Turrón de Doña Pepa, you can listen to this famous story from the locals.
THE FAMOUS STORY BEHIND TURRÓN DE DOÑA PEPA:
Doña Pepa also known as Doña Josefa Marmanillo was a slave, experienced paralysis in her arms, the paralysis took her to the position that she was totally unable to cook. As a result, her master set her free. After becoming free, she felt sad as she was unable to cook which could have been her only source of income. So, she prayed to the Lord of Miracles to cure her arms. In the month of October, she miraculously got cured. Every year after that, in the month of October, she cooked a dessert as a thanks giving day and it became tradition to prepare and eat this dessert in the month of October.
