When we talk about Guinea, we should be clear about the fact that at the time of independence French Guinea became Guinea, Spanish Guinea became Equatorial Guinea while Portuguese Guinea became Guinea-Bissau. Today we are talking about Guinea that was earlier French Guinea before independence. When we talk about the region in Guinea, 85% of the population is Muslim, followed by the religion of Christianity having 8% followers while 7% population follow other religions.

Guinea is the country where more than 40 languages are spoken. French is the official language of the country but the majority of the people speak other native languages as their first language. Major six native languages are Pular, Maninka, Ssu, Kissi, Kpelle and Toma.  Around 7% of the locals can speak English.

NIMBA NATURE RESERVE:

Nimba Nature Reserve is the tallest mountain in the country which is highly covered with beautiful sceneries, forests, savannas and montane grasslands all over. This place is considered as one of the must visit places in Guinea, which is famous for its exceptional beauty and exclusive ecosystem. This is the only UNESCO World Heritage Site in Guinea which makes it an even more eye-catching destination for the tourists visiting Guinea for the first time. It is famous all over because of its flora and fauna along with stunning biodiversity. It includes a variety of plants, mammals, vertebrates, invertebrates and countless more species.  This is one of the highly recommended destinations for the researchers, adventurers and photographers.

GUINEA LISTED AMONG WORLD’S TOP THREE BAUXITE PRODUCING NATIONS:

Guinea is listed among world’s top three bauxite producing nations (along with China and Australia). Bauxite production plays a major role in Guinea’s economy. As aluminum ore is converted into aluminum which is used in many products worldwide. Apart from Bauxite production, Guinea is rich in producing and exporting in gold, diamond and other metals.

KAMBADGA FALLS:

Kambadaga Falls are one of the most remarkable waterfalls in Guinea located about 35 kilometers west of Pita. The falls are surrounded by jungle and are home to monkeys and colorful birds. This spectacular beauty is a must visit if you are a nature lover.

THE GREAT MOSQUE OF CONAKRY:

The Great Mosque of Conakry is considered as a religious landmark of Guinea that is capable of hosting around 12000 worshipers inside the Mosque building and around 12000 worshippers in the outside compound area.

This Mosque was built in 1982 under Ahmed Sekou Touré through the financial support of King Fahad from Saudi Arabia. The Great Mosque of Conakry is a beautiful architectural masterpiece which attracts a lot of international tourists.

MUSIC IN GUINEA:

When we talk about music in Guinea, popular genres are Hip-Hop, Reggae and their traditional music. Famous musical instruments in Guinea include Kora, Ngoni and Balafon.

Mory Kante (1950-2020) is considered a legend in the music industry of Guinea while the famous singers of today’s young generation are none other than Lil Saako, Djélykaba Bintou, Saifond Balde and Habib Fatako.

Kétoun:

Kétoun is a famous dish in Guinea prepared from taro, plantain, cassava, palm oil, smoked fish, sweet potatoes, and chili.

Poulet Yassa (Chicken with Onion):

This delicious dish is prepared from chicken with lemon juice, mustard, chili flakes, bay leaves, salt, pepper, garlic and onion. This is a must try dish if you are visiting Guinea for the first time.

Lafidi:

Lafidi is a dish which is considered as a convenient and affordable dish for everyone. This mouthwatering dish is prepared with white eggplant, fresh okra, chili, and soumbara. It is all mashed together and served with rice.
