Slovenia is one of the eye catching countries in Central Europe with approximately population of twenty one million; having border with Italy to its West, Austria to its North, Hungary to the Northeast, Croatia to the South-west while Adriatic Sea to the South-west. This beautiful country came into existence in June 1991 when it was separated from the former State of Yugoslavia and became independent. Now, Ljubljana is Slovenian prime and capital city.

Slovenia is the country with mostly mountainous topography. Therefore, Slovenian Alps are one of the eye-catching attractions for almost everyone including local and international tourists. Slovenian Alps are similar to any other Alps in Europe but the biggest benefit of visiting Slovenian Alps is that it is less crowded, quiet and having peaceful atmosphere for visitors.

You can complete your journey in less time as travelling is easy and relaxing. Within two hours of drive, you can move from the Impressive Alp Region towards Mediterranean Sea.  These beautiful Slovenian Alps are divided into three ranges namely the Karavanke, the Kamnik Alps and the Julian Alps; each having their own characteristics.

KARAVANKE:

First thing we notice about Karavanke or Karawanks is that it creates a The length of Karavanke is 120kilometres and it also comprises the honor of having one of the longest chain of the ranges in entire Europe.

Recently, the Karavanke Motorway Tunnel has increased the importance of the region for tourism as Karawanken Autobahn (A11) runs from Villach in Austria to Jesenice A2 Motorway in Slovenia.

By using this route, tourists can explore entire Karavankes and can tour two neighboring countries at the same time. The Austrian side is much rocky as compared to the Slovenian side.

When we talk about its historical importance, we find very interesting facts. During the period of Roman Empire, it represented the Southern border of the Noricum Province. The ancient geographer Claudius Ptolemy mentioned about the Karwankas Mountains back in 150 A.D.

When we talk about Julian Alps, these Alps comprise the honor of having highest peak of Slovenia with highest peak at 2864m at Mount Triglav.

Julian Alps are named after Julius Caesar in order to honor him as he constructed a road here which was later on further extended by Augustus. Julian Alps lies near the border between Slovenia and Italy. The Julian Alps is a region from the Southern Limestone Alps, where Slovenia and North-eastern part of Italy joins. “

Within the Julian Alps, there is a beautiful lake known as Lake Bled which is famous for so many reasons and is one of the most attractive tourist destination. This lake has so much to offer which will be discussed in our article about Slovenia.

  1. Nice work. I want to know that going from Austria towards Slovenia is more suitable or from Slovenia border towards Austria?? which way airport is more closer?
    Kindly guide me a little.

    1. I think Julian Alps are equal from either side because you just have to cross a tunnel of 4 to 5 minutes drives to cross the border from Austria to Slovenia or vice versa. As far as closest airport is concerned from Julian Alps than it is Ljubljana Airport, Slovenia
