When we talk about Romania, many people know this place as the country of famous tennis player Simona Halep or international singer Inna.

Romania is a country located in Central and Eastern Europe, having its borders with Bulgaria, Hungary, Serbia, Moldova and Ukraine.

The word Romania is derived from the Latin word “Romanus” which means “Citizens of the Roman Empire.” The country having total area of 238,397km2 with total population over 19 million and Bucharest is the capital of the country which is also known as “Little Paris” because of the famous “Arcul de Triumf” constructed in Bucharest 1935,  inspired from the “Arc de Triomphe Etoile” in Paris.

Romania is known as hidden diamond from Central and Eastern Europe because of so many reasons including medieval fortresses, Eugene Ionesco, the Carpathian mountains and much more.

SALINA TURDA:

Salina Turda is one of the seven wonders in Romania. When we talk about the beginning of this mine, the evidence comes from the document that explicitly mentioned about a salt mine in Turda issued by Hungarian Chancellery back in May 1271. During 17th century, this place served for countless purposes including salt mining.

In today’s modern world, it has been transformed into an incredible sci-fi theme park. Once you enter inside, you will feel that you have entered a new world having an amphitheater, a bowling alley, underground lake with pointed head boats, Ferris wheel and much more.

The Losif Mine next to the Franz Josef Gallery is yet another attraction inside because of its conical shape chamber 112 meters deep and having 67meters wide base. This chamber is known as “Echoes Room” because of the powerful echo sounds are produced here.

Salina Turda was honored by “Business Insider” in 2013 as it mentioned this place among the 25 hidden gems around the world that are worth the trek.

DANUBE DELTA:

Danube Delta is naturally gifted with the environment where you will find more than 300 bird species along with wildcats and wolves. It is located in the far eastern corner of Romania, at the border with Ukraine.

The region is world famous for its saline-marine ecosystems. In 1991, the Romanian part of the Danube Delta became part of UNESCO’s list of World Heritage Sites.

DROB (Drob de Miel):

Drob is one of the famous food for Easter, prepared from minced lamb, green onions, eggs, and bread dipped in milk baked together with garlic and fresh cut herbs.

Mici:

Mici commonly known as Grill Minced Meat rolls. This mouthwatering dish is famous as street food, barbeques and for any kind of celebration. Recipe is so simple, you just need minced beef mixed along garlic and spices. Mici is usually eaten with sausage which increases its delicious taste while eating.

POPULAR ROMANIAN DESSERTS

PAPANAȘI:

Papanași is the dessert which is popular among all Romanians. This dessert is prepared with such a sweet and sour combination that provides you complete delightful joy while eating it.

Actually, it is a donut shaped cottage cheese mixture that is fried initially then covered with sour cream and jam (preferably blueberry).  The origin of this dessert is from northern part of Romania but it is equally famous all over the restaurants in entire Romania.

POALE IN BRAU:

Poale in Brau is one of the traditional desserts in Romania commonly known as “Salty Cheese Pastries”. This dessert is organized in such a way that filling is made with salty cheese inside the baked pastries. This dessert is common available all over at reasonable prices.

COZONAC (Sweet Bread):

Cozonac is actually a sweetbread filled with poppy seed paste, Turkish delight or raisins. Cozonac is considered as one of the most famous and highly demanded desserts in Romania.

There is a famous saying that Easter or Christmas remains incomplete without eating this traditional dessert of Cozonac. This dessert is very common and easily available throughout the year.
